Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) Item from the Nanyo Region of Ehime Prefecture
In addition to eating these as-is, they can also be used as an ingredient for "Hina-okoshi," a local Ehime version of hina-arare (sweet rice crackers). In households in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, it is common to make "Nigiri-mame" by mixing hina-arare, hina-beans (roasted soybeans), and starch syrup, then shaping them by hand. During the Hina Matsuri season, these are also popular as gifts from Ehime or as items ordered online.
